What is Galvanic?

Galvanic skin treatment is rooted in ‘galvanism’ discovered by Luigi Galvani, which shows the effects of electricity on muscle tissue. The principle of galvanism indicates that charged ions in the skin are either attracted or repelled from the electrodes, resulting in certain chemical effects. Based on this, the treatment works by drawing impurities out of the skin and penetrating active ingredients into the subcutaneous tissues of the skin. The treatment helps in nourishing the skin and boosting the supply of oxygen throughout it, which enhances moisture retention, and improves its ingredient absorption capacity. As a result skin is deeply hydrated and nourished from the inside out.

How does Galvanic work?

Galvanic current is used for deeply cleansing the skin and also infusing water-soluble products into the skin through two methods - Desincrustation (the deeply cleansing part of the facial), and Iontophoresis (hydrating the skin on a molecular level). A mild electrical current is glided over the skin with the use of soothing rollers, gels, and specialist skincare products. The reaction between the charged rollers and charged gel break down dead skin cells, blocked pores, dirt, and excess oil within the skin. An oppositely charged hyaluronic and collagen infused gel is then used with the rollers to repel nutrients deep into the skin. This facial may sound a little intense, but the electrical current is only felt as a mild tingle and soothing warming sensation.

How is the treatment performed?

The Galvanic part of the facial has two steps; desincrustation which is deeply cleansing and softens the skin allowing for pores to be cleared and dead skin cells removed, and iontophoresis which is the deep penetration of specialist collagen infused products into the epidermis. The soft electrical current combined with the cool rollers creates a deeply soothing experience. A nourishing mask is also applied as well as specially selected serums and moisturiser. This facial also includes a hands-on facial massage using amazingly therapeutic and rejuvenating techniques.

How do I know if Galvanic is right for me?

If you are looking for a deeply nourishing and highly effective facial then this is it. It’s a real allrounder - from combating ageing concerns, to dry and dehydrated skin. It is suitable for any skin type. However, it is not for individuals who have heart conditions or pacemakers, are diabetic, have circulation concerns, have metal plates or pins, have had major dental works, braces or are pregnant.

What is the down time?

There is no downtime, however extra precautions with SPF and products including AHAs will need to be taken.
